Davos 2010: The World is Broken
As a Fellow of the World Economic Forum, I’ve been attending the annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland for a dozen years. But I’ve never anticipated the event more than this year (Jan. 27-31). The theme is to “Improve the State of the World: Rethink, Redesign and Rebuild.”
Music to my ears. Evidence is mounting that the world and many of its institutions are stalled and need reinvention — from the financial system, the old model of government, the media, our energy and transportation systems, our cities, the university, science and even democracy. Needless to say, transforming these is a daunting challenge that will require the efforts of many parts of society.
