Nervous singles rejoice – W-41 lets you connect your t-shirt to your facebook profile
We’ve all been there – sitting alone at a bar, you see someone checking you out, you suddenly clam up and have no idea what to say, and next thing you know the person calls security because they’re weirded out by your unique combination of shaking, nonsensical ramblings, and heavily perspiring forehead. If only you could have got that person to check out the witty status update on your Facebook page in lieu of an actual conversation, surely things would have ended up better.
Ok, maybe we all haven’t been there – for example, I know that my ramblings have always made perfect sense, if you could hear them above the shaking. But if you have been, a company called W-41 is your new best friend. Alternatively, I could just say the company has developed a pretty cool example of physical /digital convergence.
If you go the W-41 site, you can purchase a wide array of different shirts. Whichever one you pick is printed with a logo on it that is unique to you, and is linked to you – you can choose to link to pretty much any webpage via your shirt. Anybody that has downloaded the app to their mobile phone can, when the red cross appears, take a “picture” of it, and they will be directed to the URL of your choice- you can check out the slide show highlighting all of this here.
I’m going to by-pass the obvious “poke” joke here, and just highlight the fact that we’ve got to be getting pretty close to some sort of tipping point on physical / digital convergence. While many people may find the t-shirt idea silly / creepy, there are countless other applications that could prove useful to a lot of people as we connect the world wide web of information to people and/or objects…
