Zombies: Far More Web-Savvy Than You’d Think
A quick post about some of the unexpected (and very amusing) consequences of our hyper-networked world:
The internet allows people to congregate around any common interest — this ability of our networked world did not catch anyone by surprise. What did catch people by surprise, is what those common interests ended up being. Various nooks and crannies are of the ‘net are filled with communities that make many of us scratch our heads in confusion, but, by and large, they aren’t hurting anyone, and they keep to themselves.
One such community is the Zombie Role-Play community. Over the weekend, they hosted their 2008 Zombie Walk. Several hundred strangers met-up in a park in Toronto, all dressed as zombies, ready to parade around Toronto.

The event, which is a punch-a-fist-up-through-the-grassroots movement, was organized mostly over facebook, and has a group with just shy of 2000 members. They lurched forwards from all walks of life for an afternoon of brains and zombie-awareness. If you’ve got the stomach for it, check out the photos from this, and past years on flickr.
