Couldn't agree more: Vivek Kundra, the District of Columbia's CTO,and I are collaborating on an op-ed trying to quantify (using the Web 2.0 analytics he employs) some of the financial benefits they've realized from employing the data feeds/data visualization tools that I described in the paper I co-authored for the nGenera Gov. 2.0 project: http://tinyurl.com/6e7gkl

You've distilled many thoughts that I've been entertaining for some time. I've recommended this post on my own blog and shared it on Twitter. Recessions can be good and the silver lining in this one might be the acceptance of Web 2.0 and cloud computing as the way or a way to foster collaboration, cut costs and become more competitive in the marketplace.

It would be really great if education took some tips from business and encouraged the use of these technologies as well.
