The 31 day comment challenge
As one could probably tell from my earlier post today (not the Dilbert comic, the other one), I’m spending a lot of time thinking about comments in the blogosphere. In one of those interesting coincidences, a comment that I made on one of our blog posts was highlighted as quite humourous by the sprylibrarian (sadly, no mention of the Dilbert comic though
), which led me to the Information wants to be free site by librarian, writer and tech geek Meredith Farkas. She is in the middle of a 31 day comment challenge which she discusses in progress (and in detail) on her blog. It really provides a lot of food for thought on the subject.
I like the process she’s going through: the challenge for day 2 was comment on a blog you’ve never commented on before; day 3 was sign up for a comment tracking service; day 4 was ask a question in a blog comment; day 5 was comment on a blog post you don’t agree with; and it goes on from there. There are also other interesting posts on encouraging people to contribute, and more than a few more library and librarian specific things. I’m currently thinking through a few of the ideas, and in order to keep in the spirit of things instead of posting any ideas here (assuming I get any), you can look for them in the comments on her blog!
