Just back from Europe
I just wrapped up my European trip, in which I launched the UK version of Wikinomics. The book has received significant coverage — most of the major newspapers and I was on the BBC, television and radio, several times.
Since I arrived in London last Thursday the book has been the #1 “Management” book on Amazon.co.uk (currently #5 for business books overall). Over the next weeks and months the book will be published in some 20 languages – in other words, we’re just getting started with this thing.
The experience has struck me with (or perhaps driven home) the power of the web as a global medium. There are now articles based in the mainstream media of several countries a result of the UK activity and the blogosphere is very active as people discuss the book and ideas.
And what a difference from my first book in the beginning of the 80s! Back then an author had a month for a book to hit the bigtime — and if it didn’t the only way to order it was through the publisher (8 weeks delivery). Being part of Mass Collaboration and the Long Tail is personally very satisfying.
Oh yeah, one other factoid. Google “The Long Tail” to see how many hits you get (impressive). Then google “Wikinomics“… that’s also satisfying
